Welcome back to the world of career prep through the eyes of a fellow student!
It’s kind of crazy how fast this semester went by. It feels like just a few weeks ago we were getting back into routines, figuring out classes, and thinking about what we wanted to get out of the term. Now we’re already at the finish line.
Being part of the Technology, Data, and Engineering side of the Center for Career Engagement this year, I’ve had the chance to talk to a lot of students and alumni about their paths. One thing that’s stood out to me is that no one really has it all figured out. Even the people who seem like they do get there by trying things, adjusting, and learning along the way. Progress isn’t always something big. A lot of the time it’s just showing up, sending that message, going to an event, or asking a question you weren’t sure about.
As the semester wraps up, it’s easy to focus on what you didn’t do. But take a second to recognize what you did do. Maybe you explored a new path, had a meaningful conversation, or just pushed through a tough stretch. That matters more than you think.
Going into the summer, my biggest advice is to stay intentional, but not put too much pressure on yourself. Whether you’re working, taking classes, or figuring things out, try to stay curious. Reach out to people, reflect on your experiences, and give yourself space to grow.
And if things didn’t go exactly how you planned this semester, that’s completely okay. Careers aren’t built in one semester. They’re built over time through consistency and being open to learning.
