Overview:

The College Prep Program (CPP) is a no-cost, four-year commitment that prepares St. Louis area high school students for success at a college or university that best matches their interests and needs.

Position Description:

The primary role of the Graduate Fellow position is providing administrative and programmatic support for the College Prep Program in person. Graduate Fellows are self-starters that are responsible for day-to-day and evening operations with Summer Academy cohorts under the primary supervision of the Program Manager and Director. This is an in-person position and housing can be provided as a component of the position’s compensation for the duration of summer academy as requested by the Graduate Fellow and approved by the Program Manager.

Dates

Start Date: Monday, May 22, 2026, to Friday, June 26, 2026

Training: Tuesday, May 23, 2026, to Friday, May 29, 2026 (8 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate student at Washington University in St. Louis
  • Ability to commit for the entirety of the 2026 Summer Academy in person
  • Must abide by and uphold all WashU College Prep and Washington University in St. Louis regulations, rules, policies, expectations well as state and federal law including the CPP Emergency Management Protocol
  • Must display professional and positive behavior consistent with the WashU College Prep Program and Washington University in St. Louis’s Community Principles and Policies, and Community Standards
  • Must maintain scholar and program confidentiality and complete all expectations as assigned by the CPP Leadership Team, session leaders, and classroom instructors
  • Preferred: Experience in K-12 education, community organizations, and/or civic engagement opportunities, specifically working with underrepresented populations
  • Preferred: Experience in supervising minors and the ability to facilitate and manage large groups
  • Must successfully complete a background check and Youth Protection training

Job Responsibilities:

Graduate Fellows will work in person for approximately 30-35 hours per week during Summer Academy, which includes night and weekend hours. Hours will vary contingent on scholar and program needs. This position is a mandated reporter position.

Graduate Fellow Tasks

  • Attend all required team and staff meetings in person, unless otherwise noted by the Program Manager. Being on time and staying for the full meeting is expected so everyone can fully participate and stay aligned as a team.
  • Positively and proactively contribute to the daily administrative and educational aspects of the program in a professional manner, including but not limited to leading advisory, assisting program partners, and managing scholar attendance.
  • Monitor and respond to CPP communication channels (Microsoft Teams, email, and phone) in a timely and professional manner during assigned shifts.
  • Serve as a liaison between instructors, presenters, scholars, and the CPP Leadership Team to ensure clear communication and smooth daily operations.
  • Serve as the lead on assigned shifts in partnership with CPP Leadership by delegating tasks and overseeing Undergraduate Program Assistants, supervising scholars, and completing incident reports when incidents occur.
  • Carry and respond to the CPP on-call phone in a timely manner. Calls may include, but are not limited to, emergency situations, parent/guardian communication, and scholar-related concerns. CPP Leadership must be notified immediately during emergencies.
  • Contact Residential Life and Summer Programs and Conference Services as needed including lock outs, scholar unable to access their room, lost key card, housekeeping concerns, and maintenance issues.
  • Refer to the CPP Emergency Management Plan when addressing emergency or crisis situations. Immediately call WUPD, no exceptions, followed by notification of a member of the CPP Leadership Team.
  • Lead drop-off and pick-up for scholars and families during shift; this includes but is not limited to:
    • Table and CPP signage set-up
    • Ensuring scholars properly sign in and out
    • Confirming scholars have meal cards and name tags on their person
  • Ensure routine responsibilities are completed during evening programming, including night curfew procedures and supervision of evening activities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with scholars at all times and uphold CPP expectations and community standards related to scholar conduct, safety, and program policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with University and CPP policies and comply with mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive program environment that promotes scholar engagement and well-being.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CPP Director, Program Manager and Program Coordinator

Required Student Staff Training:

Training will be conducted in a hybrid format. Required Canvas training must be completed before in-person training begins on Wednesday, May 27. In-person training will take place Wednesday, May 27 through Friday, May 29, and full participation is expected each day. If living in the residence hall, Graduate Fellows will be notified of their move in date in a timely manner before Student Staff Training.

Compensation:

  • $16.00/part-time hourly wage (non-exempt and non-benefits eligible)
  • Housing in the assigned residence hall for the duration of summer academy as needed
  • $350 restricted Bear Bucks
    • As part of your role during Summer Academy, you will be issued $350 in restricted Bear Bucks to help offset the cost of meals and food expenses.
