The Office of Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Swim Instructors to join our Aquatics team. Swim Instructors play a key role in helping participants build confidence, comfort, and skills in the water while creating a positive and welcoming pool environment. This job is eligible for both federal work study and non-federal work study students.
We are looking for individuals who are assertively friendly, communicate clearly, demonstrate attention to detail, and take initiative. Prior teaching or certification experience is not required, training will be provided.
Responsibilities
Teach swim lessons to participants of varying ages and skill levels
Foster a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment
Clearly communicate skills, corrections, and progress to participants
Follow established lesson plans while adapting to individual needs
Maintain a professional, welcoming presence on the pool deck
Support overall pool operations as needed during lessons
Job-Specific Requirements
- Ability to swim 50 yards efficiently of each of the four recognized strokes:
- Freestyle
- Backstroke
- Breaststroke
- Butterfly
- Ability to tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands
- Strong comfort level in the water and on the pool deck
- Confidence working with children and/or adults in a teaching environment
- Willingness to learn and apply teaching techniques and safety protocols
