Mission

The WashU Professional Clothes Closet offers free business and professional attire to all current WashU students. Our mission is to help students feel confident and prepared for interviews, networking events, and other career opportunities. This resource is a collaboration between the Taylor Family Center for Student Success and the Center for Career Engagement.


Shop for professional clothes

Students can shop for up to 10 items each semester. This resource is ideal for preparing for internships, job interviews, presentations, and other professional events. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to build your professional wardrobe and feel confident for every occasion!

The Professional Clothes Closet is currently closed for the summer. We’re restocking, refreshing, and getting ready for the fall semester so you can shop for FREE professional attire for interviews, internships, presentations, and more.

Fall 2026 shopping dates:

  • September 23: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., DUC 110
  • October 7: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., DUC 110
  • October 21: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., DUC 110
  • November 4: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., DUC 110
  • November 18: 2:00 – 4:30 p.m., DUC 110

Please note that we are unable to support walk-ins at this time.

Donate your professional clothes

We welcome donations of clean, professional clothing to help students prepare for internships, interviews, and other career opportunities. Items such as blazers, dress shirts, slacks, skirts, dresses, and sweaters are especially appreciated. Your contributions help students feel confident and ready to make a strong impression in professional settings.

During the summer months, donations are accepted Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at any Center for Career Engagement office:

Please ensure all clothing is cleaned before donating.

How to shop for professional clothes

We’ve launched a new credit system to make your shopping experience even more flexible! Each student receives 10 credits per semester, and each item in the closet costs 1 credit. You will be given a stamp card, called the Pro Closet Credit Card, to track your credits as you shop.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind when using the Professional Clothes Closet:

  • Each student starts with 10 credits per semester.
  • Every clothing item is worth 1 credit, regardless of type.
  • Your credits will be tracked using your Pro Closet Credit Card, which will be stamped each time you select an item. 
  • Once you choose an item, you must complete the Professional Clothes Closet check out process to record your selection.
  • All items are free for you to keep, and there is no need to return them after checkout; however, you are always welcome to re-donate your your gently used professional clothing if you no longer need it.

Your thoughtful donations help provide high-quality clothing for students in need.  

We ask that donated items be in good condition and free from stains or excessive wear. All clothing should be cleaned and neatly folded or hung.  

We accept professional attire such as blazers, slacks, dresses, and shoes, but cannot accept casual wear (jeans, t-shirts, or gym shoes), winter clothing, or items in poor condition. Accessories like belts, ties, and handbags should also be in good condition.

What can be donated:

  • Dress shirts, blouses, and collared tops 
  • Blazers and jackets 
  • 2-piece suits (jacket and slacks) 
  • Professional sweaters, cardigans, and vests 
  • Slacks, khakis, and dress pants 
  • Dresses 
  • Skirts 
  • Closed-toe shoes (flats/heels under 3 inches) 
  • Dress socks and hosiery 
  • Belts, ties, cuff links, jewelry and handbags 
  • Base layer items (undershirts, tank tops, dress slips) 

What cannot be donated:

  • Ripped or stained clothing 
  • Clothing with excessive patterns 
  • Winter clothing (coats, hats, scarves) 
  • Jeans/Joggers or sweatpants 
  • T-shirts 
  • Swimwear 
  • Gym shoes 
  • Children’s clothing

No, you can drop in on one of our biweekly shopping days. Individual appointment information will be updated soon for fall 2026.

No, attire in the Professional Clothes Closet is completely FREE to current WashU students.  

Each student receives 10 credits per semester, and each item in the closet costs 1 credit.

Yes, students are allowed to visit the Professional Clothes Closet multiple times throughout the semester for individual items. However, you are only allowed to receive a total of 10 items per semester. 

Commonly available professional attire includes blazers, blouses, slacks, skirts, and more! 


No, these clothes are completely free and do not need to be returned. 

When you check in to shop, you will receive a Pro Closet Credit Card, which will be stamped each time you select an item. 

Once you choose an item, you must complete the Professional Clothes Closet checkout process to record your selection.

Staff will be able to assist and answer questions onsite about checkout and current credit balance.

All items are gently used and are cleaned and prepared to look like new. 

We strive to offer a variety of sizes; if you can’t find what you’re looking for, please reach out to us via email, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.
