Training for Student Employees

Depending on the roles and responsibilities of your student workers, certain trainings may be required, necessary, and /or helpful. Providing high quality and relevant training for your student workers promotes their professional development and career readiness.

We’ve gathered a list of trainings offered across campus that are applicable to student employees. In the chart below, examples are given of student positions for whom each training would be relevant or required; these examples are not exhaustive. Please reach out to the contact listed to see if your student employee(s) should get trained. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure their student employees have access to and have completed all trainings required to do their jobs.

We recommend contacting the training facilitators 3 months in advance to book the necessary training courses to coincide with your student employee on-boarding.  For more information and resources on developing an on-boarding plan visit the Manage and Support Student Employees page.

If students are participating in required training or training assigned by their supervisor, they must be paid.

Does your department facilitate training that might be useful for on-campus student employees? Or are you an on-campus employment supervisor and have a request for a new training topic? Let us know!
