It may take 3-5 minutes to set up, and it will make it easier for you to use the many career services we offer in the future (appointments, events, job posts and more)!
If you book an appointment via your computer:
- Click this web link.
- Choose to make an appointment using Handshake.
- Create an account if you haven’t already. Please make sure you use your WashU email for the Handshake account. Your account should be approved within 1-2 business days, and you will receive an email notification. You can set up your profile then, including attaching your resume/CV.
- Log in to Handshake, choose “Career Center” in the left panel, then “Appointments,” and then “Schedule a New Appointment.”
- Choose the “PhD/Postdoctoral Scholars” category and the Appointment Type, such as “General Career Coaching.”
- Choose your preferred meeting time (if you didn’t see open slots for this week, check other weeks as well).
- We have a few coaches for PhD/Postdoctoral Scholars, and you can choose your preferred “Staff Member”.
- We have in person and virtual meeting options, and you can choose your preferred “Appointment Medium”
If you book an appointment via your phone:
Download the app “Handshake”
- Download the app “Handshake”.
- Log in using your WUSTL key. You can set up your profile now or later, including attaching your resume/CV.
- Under your profile, choose “Career Center”, then “Appointments,” and then “Schedule a New Appointment.”
- Choose the “PhD/Postdoctoral Scholars” category and the Appointment Type, such as “General Career Coaching.”
- Choose your preferred meeting time.
- We have a few coaches for PhD/Postdoctoral Scholars, and you can choose your preferred “Staff Member”.
- We have in person and virtual meeting options, and you can choose your preferred “Appointment Medium”
- Provide some background and purpose for your appointment in the “What can we help you with?” section. If you need help reviewing your resume/CV, it is advised that you share a copy with your coach on Handshake or via email ahead of your appointment.
- Click “Request”.
Once you have made an appointment, you will receive a confirmation email from Handshake and two reminders from Handshake, one a day before and one an hour before your appointment.
To make the best out of your appointment, it is advised that you get prepared on what questions you may want to ask and what goals you may want to achieve from this meeting.
